Following years of research, the team at Pezzolato have designed a new system for storing, drying and preparing wood chips.  Arbor Heat and Power recognised Pezzolato as the perfect partner because this product has been specifically developed with gasification systems in mind to produce the perfect dried and screened fuel that takes the uncertainty out of meeting the correct fuel specification.  The Pezzolato EPG series pre-treatment plant is extremely compact and can be configured to suit a number of different applications. Because of its size and robust construction, the module may be containerised and placed outside for farm or industrial applications.

Ensuring the use of fuel to the correct specification is essential for the continual and reliable operation of gasification plants. The implementation of a Pezzolato pre-treatment system allows the operator to purchase from a wider range of fuel suppliers as the system dries and removes the unwanted chip particles before delivering them to the arborElectroGen CHP fuel store.

High moisture content chips are loaded into the storage hopper. During each treatment cycle, the required volume of chips is automatically drawn from the storage hopper into the drying area. The start and end moisture content of the chips is determined electronically by a software program within the systems internal computer. This allows the minimum input of heat energy necessary for the drying process, maintaining high efficiency. The drying process is achieved by using the hot air produced from the heat exchanger between the ambient external air introduced by a ventilator and the hot water coming from the arborElectroGen biogas CHP system.

Pezzolato_1The dried chips are then transferred to the screening section of the system. A shaker table to remove the oversize chips and then specially selected sieves for the separation of dusts and fine chip particles. The correct-size dried chips are finally conveyed by means of a screw system into the final fuel hopper for feeding of the CHP system or other use.

Depending on the customer the ‘waste’ fines and small particles could be used for other purposes to make use of this fuel. In some cases this is a very good product to use for animal bedding.
